Motorcyclist killed in fiery crash

U.S 41 Venice Business on the island remained closed to northbound and southbound traffic as late as 3 p.m. on Friday, A morning crash between a motorcycle and pickup truck occurred with such impact that a gas tank ruptured, engulfing the truck in flames. The cyclist died; the pickup driver escaped injury.

A motorcyclist was killed after a collision with a pickup truck on the island Friday morning. The victim was identified as Troy Lynn O’Dell, 49, of Venice.

The Venice Police Department said O’Dell was traveling northbound on U.S. 41 Business in Venice when the driver of a pickup, Marvin Ehrlich, 73, pulled out from the area of Venetian Cleaners and attempted to make a left turn into the southbound lanes of Tamiami Trail between Indian Avenue and Palermo Place.
