Volunteers sought for Christmas Bird Count

One of the most threatened species of all is the Florida Scrub-Jay. You can only find them in Florida, but with loss of habitat and predators as common as pet cats, the Florida Scrub-Jay is becoming more and more uncommon. Only 10 were counted in the 2016 Venice/Englewood Christmas Bird Count.

Each year, on a single day in December, over 85 volunteers spread out in small groups to count birds and bird species throughout Venice and Englewood.

It’s an annual tradition called the Christmas Bird Count, conducted locally through the Venice Area Audubon Society.
