Police seek help in boardwalk fire

Venice fire fighters responded to a quarter-acre brush fire at around 3:30 a.m. on Sunday.The Service Club Boardward had caught fire. The boardwalk restoration was almost complete but was still closed to the public at the time of the fire. Now police are trying to figure out who started the fire. Residents immediately blamed the homeless population who frequent there but authorties aren't too sure.

Detectives with the Venice Police Department are asking for the public’s help in identifying who may have been responsible for the fire that destroyed much of the Service Club Park boardwalk in the early morning hours on Sunday.

Police say the blaze may have been caused by a “warming fire,” based on a fire marshal’s assessment of the scene.
