With Memorial Day just a few weeks away, it was appropriate for representatives of local veterans organizations to attend the Venice Nokomis Rotary Club to receive a check for more than $2,000.

The proceeds come from the first year of the “Flags Across Venice-Nokomis” program, where residents pay to have the club put a temporary flag in a front yard on a special holiday, such as Memorial Day.
