Walk bikes over bridge? It’s not a law

This sign directing bicyclists to walk their bikes over the Venice Avenue Bridge applies only to riders planning to use the sidewalk, according to a county official, and it's not a law.

In Florida, a bicycle is considered a vehicle. That’s why bicyclists are required to obey the same rules of the road that apply to cars, trucks and motorcycles. Whether they do is a different matter.

It’s also why they’re entitled to ride their bikes over the Venice Avenue Bridge in spite of a sign telling them to walk them over.
