Nine of the 12 jurors in John Allen Lee’s double-murder trial voted for him to be executed Thursday, but that wasn’t enough to evoke a death sentence.
The mostly female jury deliberated the sentence for three hours before becoming deadlocked. Since a death sentence requires a unanimous jury, the 9-3 vote left life in prison as the only option for sentencing.
