Venice Gardens celebrates 60 years

The Venice Gardens Civic Center is used during season by residents for regular meetings and social events. It also is available for rent by residents and non-residents.

When a tornado ripped through the Venice area about 2 a.m. on St. Patrick’s Day 1985, three homes in Venice Gardens were destroyed while some neighboring homes were virtually unscathed.

Venice Garden residents are celebrating the community’s 60th anniversary.

The official celebration began at last Tuesday’s City Council meeting when City Council member Chuck Newsom presented a proclamation recognizing the 60th anniversary of the Venice Gardens Civic Association to association president Jack Butler.
