‘Monster’ gator caught in Shamrock Park

Officers from the Florida Wildlife Commission and the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office helped capture a 13-foot alligator Sunday at Shamrock Park in South Venice. A German shepherd was killed and another went missing at the park last week, in what officers suspected was an alligator attack.

This 13-foot alligator, suspected of killing two German Shepherds on July 1 in Shamrock Park, Venice, was removed Sunday in the exact location the dogs were attacked. Assisting in its capture were Sheriff's Office deputies, Animal Services staff and FWC enforcement officers.

A trapper authorized by the Florida Wildlife Commission SNAP program pulled a 13-foot alligator out of the exact location where a dog was attacked and another went missing in a canal at Shamrock Park in Venice.

The trapper captured the gator on Sunday under the watchful and protective eye of the Sarasota County Animal Services and Sheriff’s Office deputies.
