Venice named possible site for ‘homeless’ office

National homelessness expert Dr. Robert Marbut has suggested that Sarasota County build a South County Family Village that would serve area homeless families at the site of the former Lemon Bay Garden Apartments on North Elm Street in Englewood.

National homelessness expert Dr. Robert Marbut has recommended that a village for homeless families in South Sarasota County be built in Englewood, according to a report released Wednesday.

And he has the ideal location for a Venice office to help direct people to that village: Gulf Coast Community Foundation, which he says should be the lead “convening and supporting” agency for the South County Family Portal, through which families and minor children will enter the system.
