NORTH PORT — City commissioners set the not-to-exceed millage for the 2014-2015 fiscal year higher than the current tax rate in a 4-1 vote in a meeting Thursday night, with Linda Yates dissenting.
The not-to-exceed rate, which the commission set at 3.707, is a preliminary rate that can be reduced when the final millage rate is set in public hearings in September. However the not-to-exceed rate, once set, cannot be raised per “Truth in Millage,” or TRIM, laws.
