Doctor studying smell bails on district

NORTH PORT — The medical doctor and toxicologist hired last year by the Sarasota County School District to research ongoing odor problems at Lamarque Elementary School never completed the task, and mysteriously stopped communicating with the district following a $30,000 payout.

Dr. James McCluskey, who also served as a University of South Florida professor, was tasked by the district to interview nine Lamarque staff members last year about health concerns, which he accomplished, but never turned in a completed report.
