Following a lifetime as a chef, he sold his last restaurant, deciding to retire in Venice and join his family. Bored out of his mind and wanting to get back into cooking, Chuck Gegenheimer III and his wife, Terrie, are opening Chef Chuck’s Café at 1262 Jacaranda Blvd., next to Sweetbay in the Pines Shopping Center in April.
He will feature barbecue and classic comfort food, including smoked beef, pork, chicken and ribs. He makes all his own sauces and has a 150-year-old family recipe for Charleston Hash and Rice. The menu will include green-bean casserole, black-eyed peas and cornbread dressing.
