One of the things I enjoy about living in Venice is my morning walks around the island. I like discovering the new construction as well as keeping track of the new and departing businesses in the historic downtown area. But I also enjoy reminiscing about what this community was like when I first arrived here more than a half century ago.
I was 14 years old and a freshman at Kentucky Military Institute. It was January 1962 when the “KMI Special,” the train that brought students, faculty, and staff to Venice for the winter months, finally chugged into the station.
