Just east of the River Road intersection on U.S. 41 is a spectacular piece of natural Florida, the Wild and Scenic Myakka River and its tributaries.
Seven acres of riverfront were bought by Sarasota County in 2009 through its voter-approved Neighborhood Parkland Acquisition Program. The county paid $2 million. It was a legacy deal, something that will have a greater impact as the decades go by and the park grows in popularity.
