As in past elections, our editorial board split this year over the question of extending the special 1-mill property tax for the Sarasota County School District.
The timing of the vote, high pay scales and the lack of conclusive linkage between higher spending and improved student outcomes troubled some. Others inferred a positive correlation, given the district’s high level of overall achievement, and worried the sudden loss of substantial funding would destabilize the system.
