Operating a motorized vehicle in most states is considered a privilege, not a guaranteed right simply based on being an American citizen. Loosely interpreted, that means you have to pay the government for the privilege of owning and operating a vehicle on state roads paid for by mostly the people.
The irony in that statement alone is enough to create a new political party, but we all know the odds of that being successful continues to be in doubt. But I digress — back to operating a vehicle.
