We continue to be struck by the antagonism shown by some Sarasota city officials toward the construction of a homeless shelter near the downtown. Not entirely surprised, given the assumption that facilities like this invariably encounter opposition from NIMBYs.
But the problem of homeless people camped on downtown streets was the primary reason Sarasota County embarked on a high-priced, large-scale, big-idea homelessness project last year. The fact that a minority don’t like what many — including us — believe is the most practical and compassionate solution?
