Legislation puts focus on charities, possible scams

LeftAlign.31A multimillion dollar charity scam and a scandal that forced the resignation of the state’s lieutenant governor has resulted in legislation that promises to reform and bring greater oversight of Florida’s charities and professional telemarketers who work for them.

LeftAlign.31Gov. Rick Scott is expected to sign the bill that would bring Florida in line with laws in 24 other states covering big-time charities and phone solicitation. If it is signed, the law will go into effect in July.
