Venice historian headlines library luncheon

Historian Janet Snyder Matthews, author of “Venice: Journey from Horse and Chaise,” will be the featured speaker next week at the luncheon kicking off the Friends of the Venice Public Library capital campaign. The Friends group commissioned the book in 1987.

Venice spent much of 2017 celebrating its 90th anniversary as a city, but the area’s history goes much farther back than that, as Janet Snyder Matthews can attest.

Already the author of two histories of the Sarasota area, Matthews was commissioned in 1987 by the Friends of the Venice Public Library to write a history of Venice.
