They powered their canoes swiftly and mightily, their skin glistening with the water’s spray. Their muscles alternately flexed and relaxed as they paddled. There was no time to spare if they were to reach their destination before dusk. Soon, they would be swept up in the rushing waters that would propel them even more quickly on their journey.
Once there, they’d trade their precious salt for goods they needed, sturdy rock for tools, and perhaps a bead or ceramic figurine for a special gift.
