When the Venice Indians football players got together for training camp last summer, they knew there was a sense of urgency coming into the 2017 season — especially since it was the last time that the senior-laden group would make a run at a state title.
“All of the kids looked at each other, and we said this has to be our year,” senior wide receiver Jaivon Heiligh said. “We have to do this. It’s our senior year so we have to get it done.”
