Mosquito control task force being formed

After a record-breaking year of sentinel chickens testing positive for West Nile Virus and a state-mandated countywide mosquito-born illness advisory, Sarasota County Commissioners are creating a citizen-based task force.

Since January, 33 chickens — used to alert mosquito control experts of deadly diseases — tested positive for West Nile Virus and four with St. Louis encephalitis, making Sarasota County the second highest in Florida for disease, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
