The former Punta Gorda police officer who fatally shot 79-year-old retired librarian Mary Knowlton has filed a motion to have his trial held in Broward County.

Lee Coel, 29, played the “bad guy” in a role playing scenario put on by the police department for members of the Chamber of Commerce. Believing his gun was loaded with blanks, he mistakenly fired live wadcutter rounds at Knowlton, who died en route to the hospital.
