The West Coast Inland Navigation District has received 400 tons of bedrock material from a Bonita Springs rock quarry that will be placed strategically around parts of Snake Island, then backfilled with dredged sand to keep the island from disappearing altogether.
WCIND Executive Director Chuck Listowski said the district is nearly ready to sign off on a contract to get the island restoration project done. He anticipates the contractor can finish within 60 days.
