Council accepts jail decision, with questions

After hearing Sheriff Tom Knight explain why he’s closing the South County Holding Facility, the members of the Venice City Council expressed understanding. And displeasure.

Knight laid out the case for the facility’s demise in detail on Wednesday, from the declining number of arrests in South County to its inability to process about a third of the people who are arrested locally — including juveniles, people with medical issues and anyone who is extremely intoxicated.
