Three of the nine city police dispatchers who will lose their jobs when the Sheriff’s Office takes over the service around the end of the year will get some parting gifts, courtesy of Venice City Council.
Earlier this year, council accepted an offer for the Sarasota County Commission to consolidate the city’s police dispatch with the sheriff’s, which already handles Venice Fire Department calls. The VPD’s nine dispatchers had the opportunity to apply for a position with the Sheriff’s Office or another city job. Six did so and got hired; the other three did not.
