It was an early “Black Friday” awakening for hundreds of shoppers who lined up in the cool, bright sunshine enjoying complimentary coffee and orange juice as they waited for the new Publix Superstore in Nokomis to open at 8 a.m. Thursday.

Excitedly, the senior employees and crowd watched as store manager Heather Sanborn with former store manager, 77-year-old Willie Gravois, jointly cut the green ribbon, officially opening the store. Gravois worked with Publix for 26 years, many of those as manager of the original store from which he retired six years ago.
