Seen the Holodomor sign? Here’s what it means

As one drives on U.S. 41 past Toledo Blade Boulevard, a person may notice a large billboard reading “80th Anniversary of Holodomor 1932-1933” and wonder, what is that?

“Holodomor” means “murder by starvation” in Ukrainian. It refers to the tragic genocide of the Ukrainian people in 1932-1933, which took the lives of some 10 million innocent men, women and children. It was a manmade famine in Ukraine created by the communist regime, headed by dictator Joseph Stalin.
