More than 3,000 kids under age 18 try their first cigarette every day, according to the United Health Foundation. Pine View’s Students Working Against Tobacco (SWAT) works to prevent the growth of the tobacco industry and to spread awareness of the dangers of cigarettes and other tobacco products.

For its efforts, SWAT won first place in the Kicking Butts PSA contest. Ninth-graders Paige Hansen and Jonah Mundy created a video public service announcement, or PSA, called “What’s in a Cigarette?” that emphasizes the chemical makeup of cigarettes.
