Legacy Trail a ‘homeless highway?’

This is the Venice Area Old Timers Picnic at the Nokomis Community Center shelter. Organizers circulated a petition during the event, held two weeks ago, when it was learned Sarasota County is considering whether to rehab or demolish the covered area.

Speculation that the county may raze a park shelter because homeless people have taken it over may be overreaching but this and other actions have led to the question of whether Legacy Trail is becoming the area’s homeless highway.

Representatives of the Venice Area Old Timers Picnic, who held their annual gathering two weeks ago at the Nokomis Community Center, learned the county was looking into demolishing its rusting outdoor shelter.
