As Sarasota County has been the circus capital of the United States since 1927, it makes sense that Sarasota High School might have given birth to America’s longest running student circus — the Sailor Circus.

Sailor Circus began in 1949 as part of the high school’s physical education department before evolving into a magnet school of circus arts much as Booker has evolved into a school of the arts.
