After a long and courageous battle with cancer, Lucille I. Picagli went to be with our Lord Tuesday, May 14, 2013, in Venice, Fla., at the age of 80 years.
She was born Aug. 25, 1932, in Hamden, Conn., to the late Pasquale C. and Marie Iadarola. She is survived by her children, Karen (John) Guerrera of Cement City, Mich., and Henry J. (Jody) Picagli of Hamilton, Ohio; two grandchildren, Michael H. and David J. Picagli, also of Hamilton Ohio; four stepgrandchildren; and many cousins.
Lucy graduated Hamden High School in 1950 and Southern Connecticut State University in 1954 with a B.S. in education. She taught for many years in the North Haven, Conn., school system.
She was an active member of the American Association of University Women, the Venice Area Garden Club, the Italian American Club of Venice, Retired Teachers of Connecticut and the League of Women Voters. Lucy also enjoyed her volunteer work as a library aide at the Venice Public Library and as a church greeter for the 7 a.m. Sunday mass at Epiphany Cathedral, where she assisted in the gift shop. She especially looked forward to her Monday afternoon mahjongg group.
Lucy was a loving friend who was always there to offer her support and comfort. She will be missed by all she touched.
Services: For those wishing to attend, her Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29, at Epiphany Cathedral, with interment to follow at Epiphany Memorial Garden, 310 Sarasota St., Venice, Fla.
