On Nov. 6, 2013, after 91½ years on earth, Mary Lou Kanonchoff, “The Kmart Lady,” joined her husband, Mike, and those whom she loved who went before her.

Boldly moving by herself to Venice, Fla., from Pittsburgh, Pa., in 1979, she enjoyed several careers, starting at the Venice Eye Clinic and ending after nearly 20 years in the garden center at Kmart when the store closed.

Beloved mother of Cherry (John) Vujevich of Palos Park, Ill., Dee Kanonchoff of Dublin, Ohio, and “Socks,” her best feline buddy, she had 34 wonderful years in Venice.

She loved animals, politics and travel, enjoying jaunts to Paris and London with her daughters after the age of 80. An avid football fan, she loved the Pittsburgh Steelers and rooted for the Venice Little Indians.

She lived her life with strength, courage and dignity. Her family, neighbors and friends will miss her charm, wit and beautiful spirit.
