After a courageous battle with cancer, John R. “Jack” Evans died peacefully at home Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2013.
Jack was born March 16, 1928, in Plymouth, Pa., a son of the late Leona C. and Thomas D. Evans. Jack lived in Northeast Pennsylvania, and Wilmington, Del., before moving to Venice, Fla., in 1993, where he was an active member of Waterford Golf Club.
Jack entered the U.S. Army after finishing high school and served with the First Calvary stationed in Japan. After his honorable discharge from the service, Jack entered Dickinson College but was called back to duty during the Korean War.
Prior to his recall, Jack married the love of his life, Delphine “Del” Frantz, of Forty Fort, Pa.
Jack joined the DuPont Company in 1953 with the Treasurer’s Department. In 1955, he left the company and went to resume his education at the University of Delaware, where he received his B.S. degree in accounting.
Jack returned to work for DuPont in corporate real estate. He completed several post-graduate courses pertaining to real estate offered by the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and the American Institute of Real Estate Appraisers in Chicago. He retired from DuPont in 1990 as manager of the Corporate Real Estate Division in Wilmington, Del.
He was a member of the Society of Industrial and Office Realtors and was a past board member of the Industrial Development Research Council.
Jack is survived by his wife, Delphine; his son John R. Jr. and his wife, Linda, from Callawassie Island, S.C.; his son Thomas D. and grandson Thomas D. II from Wilmington, Del.; and several nieces and nephews.
Services: A Memorial Service will be held Monday, Dec. 2, at 11 a.m. at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, Venice, Fla. Ewing Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
