Marie Ann Sclafani was called home to Our Lord Thursday, Jan. 2, 2014.

She was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and lived in Venice, Fla., and Sarasota, Fla. Marie, a gifted artist since childhood, attended The Pratt Institute in New York and participating in many local community art shows, taking first prize many occasions.

Marie worked as a graphic artist and taught her own ceramic art classes. She was an avid traveler, making many visits to her beloved Italy. Many of her works depicted her experiences abroad.

Marie was an outstanding, loving wife and mother. She will be missed dearly for her knowledge, wit, love and support of her family.

Marie was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Gus Francis Sclafani.

She is survived by her daughter Lorraine; daughter Janet Sclafani Lovesky (Richard); son Steven (Sherri); granddaughters Brielle and Justine; great-granddaughter Olivia; sister Patricia Olsen; in-laws Lawrence and Marie Sclafani; nephews Salvatore Sclafani and Philip Olsen; and nieces Kathleen Benanti and Christi Guess.

Services: Services will be held Saturday, Feb. 1, at 11 a.m. at Epiphany Cathedral. Burial will be private at Sarasota National Cemetery. Ewing Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Contributions: Memorial donations may be made to Sarasota Health & Rehabilitation Center, 1524 E. Ave. S., Sarasota FL 34239; or Tidewell Hospice Inc. 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota FL 34238, for the compassionate and personal care they so lovingly gave in her final weeks of life.
