Marvin G. Menefee

Marvin Graham Menefee was born Jan. 14, 1920, in Perry, Mo., the son of Allan K. Menefee and Lilian L. Costigan. He passed away Thursday, Jan. 23, 2014.

He had an interesting life, with the variety of jobs that he held. He drove a cattle truck, worked in a glove factory, worked in the oil fields , worked as a coal miner and owned a grocery store. In addition to working for the Advance Rowe Distributing firm, he owned a vending business and worked as a carpenter for several years.

His work with wood led to his hobby of woodworking after his retirement as superintendent of St. John’s Cemetery in Collinsville, Ill. He moved to Nokomis, Fla., in 1986.

He was married to Marie McCallister in 1939. She preceded him in death in 1995. He later married Margaret Griffin Rau Svereika in 1996.

He is survived by two daughters, Marcia (Larry) Berkel of Punta Gorda, Fla., and Linda (James) Lammers of Tucson, Ariz.; four grandchildren; and 15 grandchildren.

Services: A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 3, at Epiphany Cathedral, Venice, Fla. Farley Funeral Home, Venice, Fla., is handling the arrangements. To send condolences, visit:
