Mardell Banks, 84, passed away at 12:04 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 30, 2014, in her home, in Carbondale, Ill.
Mardell was born in Perry, Ill., on Sept. 14, 1929, to Benjamin Willis and Myrtle Ann (Seaborn) Greiwe.
She was united in marriage with C. Wayne Banks in September 1994 in Granite City, Ill. He preceded her in death on Aug. 25, 2010.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Thomas W. and Carol E. Banks, of Carbondale, Ill.; a brother and sister-in-law, Cordell and Mary Greiwe of Springfield, Ill.; five grandchildren, Brian (Courtney) Wilson and Robi (John) Stephenson all of Ava, Ill., Jennifer (Jason) Koch of Lafayette, Ind., Andrew (Sarah Newman) Banks of Carbondale, Ill., and Tommy Banks of Fort Bliss, Texas; five great-grandchildren, Trenton Wilson, Kinion Stephenson, Abi and Preston Koch and Parker Banks; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Harvey Folks, with whom she resided in Venice, Fla., for 12 years; brother Fred Greiwe; and her parents.
Mardell worked in the Finance Department for the Granite City Army Depot until her retirement.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and will be missed by many.
Services: Visitation will be held at Irwin Funeral Home, 3960 Maryville Road, Granite City, Ill., from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 1. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 1, at Irwin Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dr. K. Stephen Combs officiating. Interment will be at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates, Glen Carbon, Ill.
