Stanley (Stan) R. Wright, 70, of Venice, Fla., formerly of St. Clair Shores, Mich. died Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014, of a heart attack at the Venice Yacht Club, one of his favorite places.

Stan was born May 19, 1943, in Paris, Ill., but lived the majority of his life in the metropolitan Detroit, Mich., area. He attended Cass Technical High School, Northeastern High School, Macomb County Community College and Walsh College.

A veteran, Stan was an artillery officer in the U.S. Army and served in the Army National Guard.

After 37 years with DTE Energy (Detroit Edison), Stan retired from his final position there as Bulk Power Coordinator and moved to Florida in 2002.

Stan’s love of the water spanned many years of sailing and power boating. He also was a competitive swimmer and water polo player. He loved music, dancing, theater, cooking, competitive sports and card-playing. He was a gentleman with a playful sense of humor and a kind and helpful nature.

He is survived by his wife, Cora; his three sons; three stepchildren; and five grandchildren.
