Sharon Baker Lyon of Venice and Gulf Breeze, Fla. died on Monday, March 10, 2014 at the Venice TideWell Hospice. She was 79.

Born on March 7, 1935 in Buffalo, N.Y., she attended Olean High School and the Rochester Business Institute. In 1964, she married Richard (Dick) Baker. She had two sons, Donald Baker of Pensacola, Fla. and Jon (Arge) Baker of Asheville, N.C. In 1996, she was predeceased by Richard.

Business and fundraising were lifelong joys to Sharon. For 20 years, she was a partner with her husband in R.G. Baker Construction and together they were responsible for some of the Gulf Coast’s loveliest homes and offices — many of which still stand. In 1983, she opened The Toy Box, a gift store that, in many forms, continued for the rest of her life. Most recently, she was involved with two charities very close to her heart: the Pensacola Bay Area Impact 100 and St. Francis Episcopal Church Children’s Library in Gulf Breeze, Fla.

In 2010, after reuniting with her childhood sweetheart, she married Richard (Dick) Lyon of Gulf Breeze, Fla. Picking right up exactly where they left off, and sharing many interests, they traveled extensively and the times they shared with one another were some of the happiest of her life.

After a brief illness, she spent her final days surrounded by family and friends. She is survived by her husband, two sons, (including Donald’s partner, Jeannine Hoflich of Pensacola, Fla.) and a brother, Gary McClellan (and his wife Susan Massey McClellan) of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. She was predeceased by her parents Jordan and Marjorie Tuttle.

Venice services will be held on Saturday, March 15 at 2 p.m. at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 513 Nassau Street South, Venice, Fla. 34285

Gulf Breeze services will be held on Saturday, April 12 at 2 p.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Episcopal Church, 1 St. Francis Drive, Gulf Breeze, Fla. 32561

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Pensacola Bay Area Impact 100, Post Office Box 13304, Pensacola, Fla. 32591-3304.
