Milton Adam Hempel, 87, of Venice, Fla., formerly of Dalton, Mass., passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, April 15, 2014.

He was born in Passaic, N.J., Sept. 6, 1926. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II aboard the USS Pasadena.

Milt retired at the age of 56 from Beloit Corporation in Dalton, Mass., to enjoy his golden years in Florida. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, the German American Friendship Club and the South Venice Yacht Club, where he was a past commodore.

Milt is survived by his wife, Karola; daughters, Judith Viner (Fred), Robin Berry (Alan) and Regina Smith; grandchildren, Jeff Viner (Laura), Jenny Hewitt (Jim), Kayla and Dylan Berry and Kimberly Smith; and great-grandchildren, Jocelyn and Jacob Hewitt. He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Alice.

Services: A Celebration of Life will be held Tuesday, April 22, at 11 a.m. at Lakeside Lutheran Church, Venice, Fla. Burial will be private.
