Charles Raymond Pennell, 84, of Jacksonville, Fla., formerly of Venice, Fla., died peacefully Thursday, May 8, 2014, surrounded by his loving family.

Charles served in the U.S. Army and retired as a sheetmetal worker. He loved gardening and was an avid golfer. He was a devoted member of Creekside Christian Church.

Survivors include his loving wife of 64 years, Edith; six children, Chuck (Debbie), George (Caryl), Lynn (John), Jeff (Joyce), Joann (Bob) and Roger (Faith); 18 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild.

Services: Visitation with the family will be at 5 p.m. Sunday, May 18, at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home, 11801 San Jose Blvd., Jacksonville, Fla. A Memorial Service will follow at 6 p.m., with Pastor Chuck Peterman officiating. A reception will follow immediately at the funeral home. Interment services will be Monday, May 19, at 11 a.m. at Jacksonville National Cemetery. Please sign the guest book at
