Helga Anna Swat, 83, of Nokomis, Fla., passed away Saturday, May 10, 2014.

Helga was born May 14, 1930, in Koenigsberg, Germany, to Berta Amalia (Gemp) and Fredrick Franz Laskowsky.

She had so many interests in life. First and foremost were her husband and children. She was a very loving and giving woman, wife, mother and Omi.

Knitting was a great passion, and you could always see that in the numerous sweaters she and Ewald would wear.

She was a child of the war in Germany, and learned how to milk a cow. She had to forage for eggs to sell to put cardboard in her shoes. She found yarn and knitted socks with bicycle spokes.

She loved her church and faith and enjoyed attending the Salvation Army. A seamstress, a knitter, a fisherwoman, a boater, a great cook, a great housekeeper and a great mom.

She is survived by her daughter, Barbel “Bobbie,” and grandson Eric, along with great-granddaughter Samantha; her son, Dennis, daughter-in-law, Jeanine, and grandsons Gregory, Matthew and Jeffrey, and a great-granddaughter Nevaeh. She has two sisters and a brother in Germany.

Her brother Peter Laskowsky followed her, passing on Sunday, May 11, 2014. He will be remembered at the memorial service also.

Services: A Memorial Service will be held at 5 p.m., Tuesday, May 27, at the Salvation Army in Venice, Fla. To send condolences, visit:
