Born Aug. 30, 1944, in Radcliffe, Lancashire, England, Barbara Kathryn (Strang) Harvey was a British subject. She immigrated to New Brunswick, Canada, on the ship Queen Mary and was a Canadian citizen (father); a naturalized citizen of the United States of America; and most valued, a citizen of Heaven, where she now resides since Sunday evening, May 25, 2014.
It’s not sin to envy Barbara’s incorruptible faith that powered her through a long battle against pancreatic cancer — a battle joined by her many praying family and friends held captive by her engaging smile, inquiring communication, compassion and giving attitude.
Barbara provided leadership for the north of 55 seniors at New Life Church in Venice and vocal support during praise and worship. Barbara’s bold soprano voice added spice at the Friday evening gospel music sing-a-long on Venice Beach, and she was recognized for her collection of colorful hats capping her large hazel eyes.
Barbara is survived by her mother, Edie (Sharples) Parsons, of Ajax, Ontario, Canada; brother, Allan Strang, of Ajax, Ontario, Canada; husband (30 years), John Harvey, of Venice, Fla.; and his daughters, Sharon Harvey, of Lake Forest, Ill., and Joyce Harvey of Mt. Pleasant, S.C.
Services: Family and friends are invited to celebrate her life at New Life Church, at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 29, followed by light lunch or refreshments.
