Ralph Gilliam “Gill” Eveland II died Monday, May 26, 2014.
He was born Jan. 13, 1927, in Waynesboro, Pa., and raised in Palmyra, N.Y. He was the youngest of three sons born to Ralph and Dorothea Eveland. He is survived by his oldest brother, George Eveland.
He went to college at Michigan State University, where he met and married his wife, Maryon (Mitzi) Eveland. They were married for 48 years.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mitzi. Gill is survived by his four children, David Eveland (Cheryl), Jack Eveland (Jay), Janet Eveland and Sue Eveland-Maschinot (John); 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Gill is also survived by many dear friends.
He enjoyed tennis, golf, traveling, reading, crossword puzzles and playing Upwords with his dearest friend, Gretchen Phelan, and was a proud member of the TomTom Club.
Gill served in World War II and the Korean War, in which he was a POW for 27 months.
Before retirement, he was a brokerage manager with Travelers Life Insurance Co.
Services: A memorial gathering will be held in the Renaissance Room at Village On The Isle, Venice, Fla., at 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 3. Burial with military honors will follow at Sarasota National Cemetery, Sarasota, Fla., at 3 p.m.
