Ellis Glee “EG” Bennington, age 54, of Siesta Key, Fla., passed away Monday, June 2, 2014. He was born Dec. 6, 1959.
EG died while doing what he loved — taking care of the environment. He was a native of Sarasota, Fla., and longtime resident of Siesta Key, Fla. He was an admirer of Florida’s native plants and wildlife.
This love and appreciation was expressed in his longtime career of more than 25 years with the Parks and Recreation Department of Sarasota County Government. EG was instrumental in designing and overseeing landscapes of many of Sarasota’s beautiful parks and beaches.
EG was an avid nature photographer. His enthusiasm for the creation was a joy to be around. He graciously volunteered his wealth of knowledge and his love for nature and was appreciated and loved by many.
He also loved bicycling, kayaking and fishing.
His legacy will live on in the many wonderful parks of Sarasota County.
EG will be missed by his family, friends and workmates. His survivors include his longtime loving companion of 17 years, Judi Job; his mother, Patricia Nickell; his stepfather, Gilbert Picot; and his siblings, Dawn Bennington-Stewart, Michelle Mehok, Lana Picot and John Pavel.
Services: A Memorial Celebration will be held Sunday, June 15, from 2 to 5 p.m., at the Edison Keith Mansion at Phillippi Estate Park, 5500 South Tamiami Trail, Sarasota, Fla. All are welcome.
