Frances E. Taormina

Frances E. (Statkus) (Burgess) Taormina, age 96, died Monday, June 9, 2014, in Venice, Fla., after a short illness.

Born in Stoughton, Mass., May 17, 1918, Frances was the daughter of the late Mary (Yarush) and Michael Statkus.

Educated in Stoughton schools, Frances married Joseph A Burgess and worked for many years in retail until moving to Cape Cod.

She managed Terry’s Inn in Hyannis, Mass., and later owned the Evergreens Guest House, also in Hyannis, Mass. After the death of her husband, Joseph, Fran moved to Florida, where she married Julius Taormina. They shared 15 years of marriage until his death in 2008.

Upon Julius’s death, Frances moved into Aston Gardens, where she thoroughly enjoyed the beautiful surroundings and made many new friends.

Frances was a lively and talented woman who loved fashion and antiques and played bridge and other card games until her death.

In addition to her two husbands, Frances was also predeceased by her siblings, Helen M. Scott and Michael J. Statkus. She is survived by four stepchildren and nine nieces and nephews and their families.

Services: Funeral services are being managed by Farley Funeral Home, Venice, Fla. Interment services for Frances will be private and will be held in Massachusetts.
