Carl (Tom) Williams passed peacefully Wednesday, June 4, 2014.
Born Dec. 10, 1939, in Rogersville, Tenn., he served in the U.S. Army in Korea with the Military Police and was awarded Honor Graduate Provost Generals School.
Returning, he received his criminology degree from Berea College in Berea, Ky. A graduate of the Maryland State Police Academy, he was assigned to the Waterloo and Annapolis barracks. Relocating to Florida, he was a deputy with the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office in Punta Gorda, Fla. Most of his life was dedicated to law enforcement and employment with private security.
Tom is survived by his wife, Frances Callis-Williams; daughters, Carla Barnes (Terry), Port Charlotte, Fla., and Patti Carney of Venice, Fla.; son, James (Jodi) Williams of Fredericksburg, Va., stepchildren, Candace Ierulli, Christopher Callis and Lt. Col. Corteney (Tiffanie) Callis of Sarasota, Fla.; grandchildren, James Dethloff, Gaylord, Mich., Elizabeth, Kathryn and Anna Williams of Fredericksburg, Va., and Ashley Ierulli, Brandon Callis, Ava Callis, Brandon Driggers and Courtnie Driggers all of Sarasota, Fla.
Growing up he was known as CT. He leaves his sisters, Margaret Burnham of Columbus, Ga., and Virginia Lee of Rogersville, Tenn.; and a brother, Frank Williams of Rogersville, Tenn.
He leaves behind many extended family members and friends, along with the mother of their children, Dorothy Williams, Venice, Fla.
Sincere appreciation is extended to Sarasota Memorial Hospital’s ICU staff and Tidewell Hospice for the care shown to Tom and his family members.
Services: Services will be Friday, June 20, at 9:30 a.m. at Sarasota National Cemetery, 9810 State Road 72, Sarasota, Fla.
