Trevor Garrett Hendrik Ritsema, 45, of Venice, Fla., passed away Saturday, June 14, 2014, at Venice Regional Bayfront Health after a five-year-long battle with cancer.
He was born at Holy Cross Hospital in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Nov. 14, 1968. Trevor was a 1987 graduate of Wilton High School in Connecticut and entered the Coast Guard in 1994, where he trained as a rescue swimmer.
He married Chrissy Shumaker on April 28, 2010, in Ocho Rios, Jamaica.
Trevor was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, windsurfing, hunting sharks’ teeth, boating, riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle, rock climbing and hiking. He was a fine woodworking craftsman and also enjoyed collecting knives.
He is survived by his wife, Chrissy Ritsema; his mother, Eileen Weber; his father, Alan Ritsema; his sister, Rebecca Ritsema; aunts Maureen Moody, Kathryn Quintard and Sandra Fitzpatrick; and uncles Michael and William Metivier; as well as many cousins and extended family.
Services: The family will received friends Thursday June 19, at the Manasota Beach Picnic Area. A Celebration of Life Service followed.
