Donald Edward Ross, formerly of Venice, Fla., passed away Wednesday, June 18, 2014, in Mt. Lebanon, Pa., at the age of 87.
Don was born and lived much of his life in Rochester, N.Y., and then in Venice, Fla., for more than 25 years. Don and his wife, Kitty, moved to the Mt. Lebanon area two years ago to be closer to family.
He is survived and will be missed by Kitty; daughters Susan Ross and Peggy Thompson (Carl); grandsons Ben Thompson (Rebecca) and Bryan Thompson (Mary); and great-grandsons William and Jacob. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Edward and Laura Ross, and his brother, Kenneth.
Don graduated from Irondequoit (N.Y.) High School, where he later taught math for many years and retired as the head of the math department. Don loved being a teacher. He also graduated from University of Rochester (B.S.) and Springfield College (M.S.).
During his 30-plus-year retirement in Venice, Fla., Don played a lot of tennis, volunteered for over 15 years in Meals on Wheels, rooted for the Red Sox, organized Christmas drives for needy families and enjoyed living near the sea with Kitty. Don’s motto: Eat dessert first.
