Herbert Wilson Witt

Herbert Wilson Witt, 94, of Venice, Fla., passed away on June 27, 2014 — 17 days before his 68th wedding anniversary). He passed with his family at his bedside.

Herb was born in Meyersdale, Pennsylvania to George and Addie Witt on February 25, 1920. He served in WWII in the 725th Engineer Division. He worked 36 years for the Kelly Springfield Tire Co. in Cumberland, Maryland.

He and his wife moved to Venice, Fla. in 1987. Herb was an avid golfer at Capri Isles Golf Club, where he was a member. Herb was a former member of the Elk’s, Moose and a member of the VFW.

Herb was preceded in death by his mother and father; two sisters: Margaret Firl and Ruth McKenzie; and brother Victor Witt. Herb is survived by his wife Audrey, son Arthur Witt and wife Delana and daughter Cathy Williams.

He also is survived by five grandchildren: Michele Hitchins, Becky Bennett and fiance Josh Slifco, Megan Hoyman and Keith, Beth Cornachia and Frank. Also survived by grandson Robert Witt and Tricia; and also 13 great-grandchildren.

As Herb wished, he was cremated and his remains will be sent to Rocky Gap Veterans Cemetery, Flintstone, Maryland. There will be a memorial service held at a later date.

In memory of Herb, memorial donations may be sent to Tidewell Hospice, Venice Florida.
